They tried to bury us, they didn’t know we were seeds

What is Free Skool Eugene?

Free Skool Eugene aims to provide an alternative, grass roots, and truly free approach to education based on the anarchist principles of anti-authoritarian, dissolution of hierarchy, mutual aid, access, and fostering community. We organize 100% free classes and skill shares that are open to anyone in the hopes of building a society where each of us are empowered to pursue our passions.

Who is Free Skool Eugene?

We are a group of Eugene community members and anarchists committed to building a self-sustained network of knowledge that can support our community. We are open to everyone, at any age and stage of life, following the motto “everyone has something to teach.”

Our Values

  • Free

    • Free Skool Eugene aims to create a truly free space where all are encouraged to think, speak, and express themselves freely. Free Skool Eugene is built on a gift economy where all classes are free to attend. Some teachers may ask for a donation to cover material costs, but no one will ever be turned away for lack of funds.
  • Everyone has something to Teach

    • Free Skool Eugene believes that everyone has something to share and teach. We encourage people of all ages and backgrounds to share their passions with their community. We welcome both amateurs and life-time practitioners to teach.
  • Mutual Aid

    • Free Skool Eugene believes in creating a network of non-monetary exchange, reciprocity, and solidarity where individuals come together to learn and share cooperatively in the spirit of sustaining a more resilient and self-sufficient community.
  • Anti-authoritarian & dissolution of hierarchy

    • Free Skool Eugene challenges dominant educational institutions and the hierarchical relationships they ascribe to. We seek to blur the lines between teacher, learner, and organizer, encouraging everyone to speak up and share.
