DESCRIPTION:Sweetwater is an Idle No More activist who advocates for the protection of the fragile environment of the Northwest Coast\, for tribal sovereignty rights\, and the traditional way of life of Native people. She conducts Idle No More ‘Decolonizing Our Activism’ workshops in a respectful way that is both healing and empowering. \nPart one is not necessary in order to attend part two. This workshop incorporates traditional Native American teachings that are even more relevant and needed today. She will offer ways to form partnerships with the traditional stewards of this land. DESCRIPTION:This conference explores formats to address\, fabricate and discuss social transformation that challenge the standard model of an academic conference. It invites participants to create a common space for radical imagination and social justice that goes beyond a skill-share for radical organizers. Radical Imagination invites us to engage in a profound critique of what seems obvious (radical = that goes to the roots of something) and to explore alternative ways of living together – producing\, loving\, shaping spaces and time\, inhabiting the land\, working\, using\, struggling. It is an appeal to decolonize social relations and the dominant imaginaries that justify oppression and injustice. Radical Imagination is not just about dreaming alternative futures. SUMMARY:Fight Dystopia\, Demand Utopia!
DESCRIPTION:This is a panel on this history\, structure\, and goals of Demand Utopia\, an international network of community organizers interested in the philosophy of Social Ecology. We are inspired by the Revolution in Rojava\, an experiment in radical democracy currently taking place in an autonomous region of northern Syria\, and will discuss some of the international solidarity work we have organized in support of Rojava. \nWe are also part of an emerging continental federation of like minded community organizations called Symbiosis. One of the member groups of Symbiosis is Cooperation Jackson\, who is doing some amazing work around building neighborhood assemblies and a locally controlled solidarity economy in Jackson\, Mississippi.
