SUMMARY:Against Punishment - Unit 2
DESCRIPTION:Crafting Non-Punitive Responses to Harm \nWe are thrilled to share with you an invitation to Against Punishment\, a training resource created by Project Nia and Interrupting Criminalization. SUMMARY:NAC Public Gathering (digital)
DESCRIPTION:The Public Gatherings are a monthly meeting to welcome new people to the collective and come together to learn what people are working on\, gather advice\, and discuss projects. \n5-7pm @ https://8×8.vc/naceugene/public \nIf you can’t make this meeting but would still like to be involved you can contact us here: https://neighborhoodanarchists.org/get-involved/ \nAccessibility: NAC strives to have our meetings be accessible to everyone. Let us know if you need ASL services and we can arrange for that. During meetings we take a break and we welcome everyone doing what they need to be present. If you have any questions or accessibility needs please email us at contact@neighborhoodanarchists.org. \nWe at NAC recognize that our society is dominated by intersecting oppressive power structures\, including capitalism\, the state\, white supremacy\, cis-hetero-patriarchy\, and ableism. We are committed to intersectional action in all that we do.

SUMMARY:Radical Thought Reading Group
DESCRIPTION:Thursdays 5:30-7:00 PST\nZoom Link \n\n\n\n\nFacilitator \nAlex – alex@neighborhoodanarchists.org \nDescription \nThis ten-week reading group will explore some key texts in radical thought\, including texts by Marx\, the early anarchists\, feminist theorists\, and scholars of contemporary radical movements. SUMMARY:Against Punishment
DESCRIPTION:We are thrilled to share with you an invitation to Against Punishment\, a training resource created by Project Nia and Interrupting Criminalization. This abolitionist curriculum is anchored in the principle that “punishment actually undermines safety.” The first of a four-part series\, the unit “Exploring Different Forms of Justice” will guide us through conversations on punitive\, restorative and transformative justice\, and exercises in interrupting harm as we encounter it in our community and daily life. \nWe hope that you will share this invitation widely\, and join us on Saturday\, January 30\, 2021\, 10am – 12:15pm PST\, to explore these ideas together. \nPlease register to receive a Zoom link at: tinyurl.com/againstpunishment. \nFuture units (dates TBD) include: Crafting Non-Punitive Responses to Harm; Another World Is Possible\, Abolition through Storytelling; Surviving Harm/Violence & What Would Justice Look Like? \nThis series is presented by Lane County Mutual Aid and Neighborhood Anarchist Collective.

SUMMARY:Film Screening: "Touch the Sky: Stories\, Subversions\, & Complexities of Ferguson"
DESCRIPTION:Join: https://neighborhoodanarchists.org/watchtouchthesky \n  \n“A video collage reflecting on the raw moments of the 2014 Ferguson riots. A film for the wild ones\, the anarchists\, and the dreamers…” \nJoin us for a virtual screening of “Touch the Sky” on Saturday\, August 29th @ 7 pm! The film takes a look into the uprisings after the murder of Mike Brown in Ferguson\, Missouri on August 9th\, 2014 with on-the-scene footage of the aftermath in St. Louis. The filmmakers contacted us before the pandemic to organize a Eugene stop on their film promotion tour. The tour was canceled but we’re still showing the film at their request. There will be time for an informal discussion after the film. The doc is ~110 minutes long.  \n  \nThis screening will be conducted over Kast\, a tool that allows for group viewing and discussion. You’ll need to make an account to join (Sorry\, it was the best tool we could find). Please arrive on time so we have time to work out technical issues. We will be starting the film by 7:15 pm. You’ll be able to join the event here: https://neighborhoodanarchists.org/watchtouchthesky \n  \nYou can find the trailer here: https://archive.org/details/touch-the-sky-trailer\n(The doc is also available online for free if you’d like to share this movie: https://archive.org/details/touch-the-sky) \n  \n  \n  \nWarning: Some footage may be graphic for viewers. \n
